Inviting touch, warmth, and slow attention, this ceramic Yam cup reveals the quiet drama of wood-fired stoneware through its surface and form. The gently undulating silhouette feels alive in the hand, shaped slowly to retain subtle shifts that make each piece feel instinctive rather than exact. Soft moss greens, warm clay tones, and ember-like flashes drift across the surface like traces of flame and time, guided by a painterly sensibility where clay becomes both memory and material. Crafted in stoneware and wood-fired, the cup is shaped by wandering flames, falling ash, and shifting kiln atmospheres, creating natural flashing, layered textures, and markings that can never be repeated. Ideal for tea, sake, espresso, or reflective sipping, the form encourages a slower pace, turning simple moments into tactile, sensory rituals.

Process & Craft

Each yam cup is handmade by master craftspeople using traditional studio pottery methods, beginning with wheel-thrown forms shaped from unique clay mixes prepared in-house. Natural, mineral-rich glazes are applied by hand, drawing from Japanese Mingei and Korean Buncheong influences that guide the studio’s design sensibility. Fired at nearly 1300°C, the stoneware develops remarkable strength and a glaze surface shaped by the dynamic play of fire, ash, and high-temperature reactions inside the kiln. Every piece is quietly distinct — a reflection of the kiln’s temperament, the hands that shaped it, and the experienced designers who curate its final aesthetic.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
