Turning rhythm and touch into surface, this ceramic Yam cup expresses the quiet strength of wood-fired stoneware through form and texture. The gently rounded body feels balanced and grounding in the hand, shaped slowly to preserve the subtle shifts that make each piece feel instinctive and alive. Fine diagonal grooves wrap around the surface like a slow spiral, catching warm brown and smoky charcoal tones that deepen with movement and light. Crafted in stoneware and wood-fired, the cup is shaped by wandering flames, settling ash, and shifting kiln atmospheres, creating natural flashing, soft textures, and unrepeatable markings. Ideal for tea, sake, espresso, or unhurried evening sips, the form brings warmth, tactility, and a steady, meditative presence to everyday rituals.

Process & Craft

Each yam cup is handmade by master craftspeople using traditional studio pottery methods, beginning with wheel-thrown forms shaped from unique clay mixes prepared in-house. Natural, mineral-rich glazes are applied by hand, drawing from Japanese Mingei and Korean Buncheong influences that guide the studio’s design sensibility. Fired at nearly 1300°C, the stoneware develops remarkable strength and a glaze surface shaped by the dynamic play of fire, ash, and high-temperature reactions inside the kiln. Every piece is quietly distinct — a reflection of the kiln’s temperament, the hands that shaped it, and the experienced designers who curate its final aesthetic.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
