Crafted to center your morning routine, this piece from our Avyaj collection honors the slow whisk and the quiet beauty of intentional gathering. Its deep, stable silhouette draws a thoughtful line between the ancient, sacred forms of traditional tea-ceremony bowls and the refined, functional minimalism of modern studio pottery, designed to hold the warmth of your daily brews comfortably between two hands.
The surface of the Slate Orchard Bowl, as captured in 30.jpg, serves as a striking canvas for archaic, abstract imagery. A wide, horizontal band of misty slate-blue glaze sweeps across the lower body, overlaid with whimsical, hand-painted motifs: two concentric, textured iron-brown medallions decorated with fine sgraffito lines that evoke abstract orchard fruits or celestial symbols. This detailed work rests beautifully against a creamy, oatmeal-toned exterior that is lightly dappled with a fine mist of iron freckles. The interior opens up into a clean, pale-cream glazed expanse, allowing you to appreciate the vibrant, rich green color of your whisked tea.
Designed for the deliberate whisk and the post-dawn reflection, the substantial weight and raised foot-ring of this stoneware piece encourage a mindful, steady grip. The distinct tactile contrast between the smooth glaze and the raw, unhurried marks of the maker invites a meditative pause, turning your morning tea into a soulful ritual of presence.

Process & Craft
Each piece is wheel-thrown using iron-rich local Indian stoneware clays and minerals. The vessel undergoes a rigorous 16–20 hour woodfire stoneware firing technique in a traditional kiln, reaching temperatures of 1300°C. During this intense transformation, Casuarina wood ash is carried by the flame to melt onto the clay's surface, interacting with the painted glazes to create a natural, glass-like patina and complex textures that entirely defy the soulless uniformity of mass production. The resulting surface preserves the memory of the fire forever, ensuring that every single bowl possesses a unique, unrepeatable soul.
Sustainability Practices
Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
