Bringing a deeply comforting, tactile presence to your quiet mornings, this hand-thrown ceramic mug from our Avyaj collection is sculpted with an artistic, low-profile silhouette. The mug is defined by its stout, wide-bellied base that pinches inward before softly flaring out at the lip—a clever structural design that concentrates the rich aromas of your brew while keeping it warm. Attached securely to the upper rim is an ergonomic, low-slung handle, meticulously pressed with a comfortable thumb-rest that gives you an exceptionally balanced grip.

The exterior highlights a beautiful, dual-zoned glaze interplay born from the kiln. The lower, voluptuous basin is coated in a glossy, mottled sage-green and ochre glaze, densely streaked with iron crystals that form vertical, rain-like patterns. This organic coloration sharply transitions at the waist into a smooth, glass-like collar of toasted caramel and deep molasses brown. The rich brown glaze flows smoothly over the flared lip and completely coats the interior, ensuring a non-porous, food-safe lining that effortlessly resists coffee and tea stains.

Crafted from heavy, premium thick-walled stoneware, this artisan piece provides excellent thermal inertia, keeping your cortados, double espressos, or loose-leaf chais at the perfect drinking temperature.

Process & Craft

Throwing this distinctive squat, cinched profile requires an expert hand on the wheel to gracefully transition the wide, bulbous belly into a narrow neck without collapsing the clay. The handle is hand-pulled from a raw clay lug, thoughtfully shaped with a wide thumb-plate, and securely luted to the vessel's rim while leather-hard. After a primary bisque firing, the artisan precision-dips the upper section into an iron-saturated slip before coating the lower half with a highly reactive mineral formula. Fired at 1300°C for 20 hours in a wood-fired reduction atmosphere, the intense heat forces the glazes to melt, fuse, and run down the shoulders, creating an exquisite, one-of-a-kind cascading gradient.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
