Softening fire into quiet presence, this ceramic Yam cup reveals the gentle poetry of wood-fired stoneware through its surface and form. The subtly flared silhouette feels light yet grounding in the hand, shaped slowly to preserve the natural shifts that make each piece feel personal and alive. Creamy ash whites melt into warm clay and soft ember tones, creating a surface that feels like weathered stone touched by sunlight, guided by a painterly sensibility where clay becomes a record of time, touch, and movement. Crafted in stoneware and wood-fired, the cup is shaped by wandering flames, settling ash, and shifting kiln atmospheres, resulting in natural flashing, delicate textures, and markings that can never be repeated. Ideal for tea, sake, espresso, or slow morning rituals, the form brings a sense of calm, tactility, and quiet warmth into everyday moments.

Process & Craft

Each yam cup is handmade by master craftspeople using traditional studio pottery methods, beginning with wheel-thrown forms shaped from unique clay mixes prepared in-house. Natural, mineral-rich glazes are applied by hand, drawing from Japanese Mingei and Korean Buncheong influences that guide the studio’s design sensibility. Fired at nearly 1300°C, the stoneware develops remarkable strength and a glaze surface shaped by the dynamic play of fire, ash, and high-temperature reactions inside the kiln. Every piece is quietly distinct — a reflection of the kiln’s temperament, the hands that shaped it, and the experienced designers who curate its final aesthetic.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
