Designed to anchor the dining table with an earthy, majestic weight, this hand-thrown soup tureen from our Avyaj collection brings elemental depth to everyday serving. The vessel features a robust, broad-shouldered body that slopes inward down to a narrow, stable footed base, accompanied by two sculptural, wide-looped handles pulled directly from the clay body for a balanced grip. A heavy, matching domed lid fits snugly inside the gallery rim, completed by a dark, toadstool-shaped knob handle for seamless tableside serving.
The entire exterior showcases a deeply complex mineral glaze finish that shifts dynamically under different lights. A glossy, rich teal-blue base coat is layered with a fine, mottled mist of slate grey and mossy green specks, evoking the moody textures of deep ocean water or ancient stone deposits. Where the glaze pools along the lid's ridges, the handles, and the rim, it breaks into warm, unglazed iron-brown boundaries that frame the cool color palette beautifully. The spacious interior is completely coated in a smooth, high-gloss liner glaze for effortless cleaning and food-safe utility.

Process & Craft
The journey of this heavy-walled vessel begins as a massive mound of raw stoneware clay on the potter's wheel, requiring precise physical control to center and lift the wide, voluminous belly without letting the walls buckle. The matching domed lid and sturdy side handles are formed separately and carefully luted onto the main form once the clay reaches a leather-hard consistency. After an initial bisque firing, the artisan layers multiple reactive mineral glazes over the body. The piece then enters a grueling, high-temperature reduction environment inside a wood-fired kiln reaching 1300°C, causing the iron and copper minerals within the glaze formulas to fuse, bubble, and settle into a highly individualized, starry multi-toned patina.
