The physical execution of this traditional narrow-necked flask requires a master potter's seasoned intuition, as the hollow base must be carefully expanded on the wheel while keeping the upper walls thick enough to be compressed inward without collapsing the throat. Once the elegant teardrop form is perfected from raw stoneware clay, it is allowed to dry to a firm, leather-hard state for precision base trimming. Following a primary bisque firing, the artisan bathes the vitrified piece in a classic, iron-saturated reduction glaze. The carafe then undergoes a punishing 20-hour firing cycle at 1300°C in a wood-fueled reduction kiln, causing the mineral-dense glaze to liquefy, pool beautifully over the curves, and crystallize into an impenetrable, jet-black glossy armor.
