Bringing the mesmerizing expanse of the deep cosmos straight to your dining table, this hand-thrown ceramic plate from our Avyaj collection turns every meal into a visual experience. The architecture of the plate highlights a perfectly flat, expansive baseline that curves gently upward into a subtle, low-profile rim. This sleek design provides a generous canvas for presentation while ensuring sauces and reductions stay neatly contained.

The glaze application mimics a swirling interstellar cloud formation, capturing an elegant depth within a glossy finish. The center of the plate opens with a warm, stippled khaki-beige core that seamlessly fractures outward into a misty, deep indigo-blue gradient. Heavily peppered with micro-mineral speckles, the reactive surface catches ambient light like a cluster of distant stars. Where the glaze reaches the very edge of the rim, it breaks into a raw, toasted earth-brown border, creating a beautiful organic frame around the celestial color palette.

Crafted from high-density, premium stoneware clay, this plate offers incredible durability and excellent thermal resistance, making it perfect for keeping your main courses warm from plating to the final bite.

Process & Craft

Throwing a flat, wide plate requires immense baseline compression on the potter's wheel to counteract the natural tension of the clay and prevent the bottom from warping or cracking during the drying stages. Once the piece is carefully shaped from raw stoneware and dried to a leather-hard state, it is trimmed to establish a clean, low footprint before undergoing a primary bisque firing. The cosmic aesthetic is achieved by layering an iron-saturated slip base with a secondary, highly volatile cobalt-titanium glaze formulation. The plate is then subjected to a rigorous 20-hour reduction cycle at 1300°C inside a wood-fueled kiln, where the swirling flames pull the minerals across the flat surface to freeze a unique interstellar pattern onto every piece.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
