Holding contrast, warmth, and quiet drama, this ceramic Yam cup reveals the expressive character of wood-fired stoneware through its surface and form. The softly rounded body feels steady and comforting in the hand, shaped slowly to preserve subtle shifts in curve and thickness that make each piece feel individual. Bold fields of golden ochre and deep charcoal move across the surface like fragments of shadow and light, guided by a painterly sensibility where clay becomes both medium and memory. Crafted in stoneware and wood-fired, the cup is shaped by drifting ash, wandering flames, and changing kiln atmospheres, creating natural flashing, soft textures, and markings that can never be repeated. Ideal for tea, sake, espresso, or reflective sipping, the form brings visual depth and tactile richness into everyday rituals, encouraging slower, more attentive moments.

Process & Craft
Each yam cup is handmade by master craftspeople using traditional studio pottery methods, beginning with wheel-thrown forms shaped from unique clay mixes prepared in-house. Natural, mineral-rich glazes are applied by hand, drawing from Japanese Mingei and Korean Buncheong influences that guide the studio’s design sensibility. Fired at nearly 1300°C, the stoneware develops remarkable strength and a glaze surface shaped by the dynamic play of fire, ash, and high-temperature reactions inside the kiln. Every piece is quietly distinct — a reflection of the kiln’s temperament, the hands that shaped it, and the experienced designers who curate its final aesthetic.
Sustainability Practices
Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
