Marrying traditional tabletop warmth with a modern graphic sensibility, this hand-thrown soup tureen from our Adwai collection makes a functional centerpiece for communal dining. The vessel features a comforting, wide-bellied body that tapers gently down to a stable base, balanced by two robust, hand-sculpted handles flanking the shoulders for a secure grip. A perfectly fitted, domed lid rests neatly inside the rim, topped with a sturdy, flat-knobbed handle designed for effortless lifting.
The exterior serves as a striking backdrop for fluid, artistic brushwork. A smooth, glossy off-white and sandy-beige glaze coats the entire stoneware surface, lightly dusted with natural iron speckles that rise from the clay during firing. Across the swelling front of the pot and curving along the lid, a bold, sweeping brushstroke of deep indigo blue cuts through the neutral background, capturing the raw, rhythmic energy of a breaking ocean wave. The inside of the tureen is finished with a durable, food-safe liner glaze, ensuring it functions as beautifully as it presents.

Process & Craft
Throwing a large, wide-bodied tureen on the potter's wheel requires exceptional control to keep the walls evenly balanced and capable of supporting a custom-fitted lid. Once the main body, matching domed lid, and pulled side handles are formed from local stoneware clay and joined at the leather-hard stage, the raw piece undergoes an initial firing. The artisan then dips the vessel in a mineral-rich beige glaze before applying a rapid, intuitive stroke of concentrated cobalt-iron slip using a broad, soft-bristled brush. A final, high-temperature reduction firing vitrifies the stoneware, forcing the deep blue stroke to melt into the glossy beige base, creating a permanent, one-of-a-kind abstract pattern on every piece.
