The vessel features a low-slung, wide-bellied profile built for even heat distribution, bracketed by two robust, heavy-set loop handles that offer a secure hold from oven to counter. A broad, gently domed lid sits squarely inside the recessed rim to seal in moisture, crowned with a stout, flat-topped knob for effortless handling.
The smooth exterior glaze acts as a clean, polished background for energetic, fluid brushwork. A high-gloss, creamy beige base coat covers the stoneware, heavily stippled with fine mineral freckles that bloom naturally from the clay during the firing process. Sweeping dramatically across the face of the dish and mirrored onto the lid are deep indigo-black brushstrokes, mimicking the crest of a breaking wave or a swift gust of wind caught in motion. The spacious interior is finished with a smooth, glass-like liner glaze, making the piece entirely food-safe and easy to clean.

Process & Craft
Throwing a low, wide-profile baker requires exceptional control on the wheel to ensure the thick base and curved walls maintain a uniform density capable of withstanding thermal shock. Once the main basin, custom gallery rim, and matching domed lid are shaped from local stoneware clay, the artisan hand-pulls and lutes the dense side handles onto the shoulders while leather-hard. Following an initial bisque firing, the piece is dipped into a mineral-rich beige base glaze. Using a loose, expressive hand, the artisan then applies rapid, calligraphic sweeps of high-iron cobalt slip with a broad, soft-bristled brush. A final 20-hour journey through a wood kiln at 1300°C vitrifies the stoneware, forcing the contrasting glazes to fuse beautifully and ensuring every piece features its own unrepeatable abstract pattern.
