The exterior is enveloped in a smooth, high-gloss pale blue-grey glaze that evokes the cool tones of compressed glacial ice or misty winter skies. Throughout the glassy finish, a delicate dusting of fine iron speckles rises gently from the underlying clay body, lending a subtle organic texture to the minimalist form. Bringing this wide, low-profile form to life requires a disciplined approach on the potter's wheel, ensuring the broad flat base is compressed perfectly to prevent structural hairline cracks from forming as the clay shrinks. Once the shallow basin and its complementary high-domed lid are thrown and turned to their final profiles, a precise steam release hole is hand-pierced into the leather-hard lid before it undergoes its primary bisque firing. The artisan then bathes the stoneware in a custom mineral formula rich in titanium and iron traces. The piece is then subjected to a rigorous 20-hour reduction cycle at 1300°C inside a wood-fired kiln, where the chemical reaction transforms the raw glaze into a glossy, pale celadon-esque blue patina unique to every firing.
