Bringing a grounded, elemental comfort to your morning coffee or evening tea rituals, this hand-thrown ceramic mug from our Avyaj collection is sculpted for both beauty and daily utility. The architecture of the mug features a beautifully stable, wide-bottomed conical body that gently tapers toward the rim, trapping heat and rich aromas inside. Extending from the upper rim is a robust, sweeping ear-shaped handle, designed with an ergonomic thumb-rest and pulled with a variable thickness that settles perfectly and securely into your grip.
The exterior highlights a rich, dual-toned glaze application displaying a moody, organic transition. A heavily stippled, matte mossy-teal and olive-green glaze blankets the lower body, densely peppered with micro-mineral speckles that give the surface a tactile, stone-like depth. As it moves toward the upper rim, the texture breaks sharply into a glass-smooth, high-gloss band of rich iron-brown and obsidian black. This glossy glaze flows seamlessly over the lip into the interior cavity, providing a fully vitrified, food-safe surface that is highly stain-resistant and exceptionally smooth against the lips.
Crafted from heavy, premium thick-walled stoneware, this mug offers outstanding thermal retention to keep your favorite pour-overs, matchas, or spiced chais piping hot down to the very last sip.

Process & Craft
Throwing a stable, tapered conical shape requires a disciplined hand on the wheel to ensure the walls maintain a uniform density while narrowing toward the rim. Once the main body is shaped from local stoneware clay and dried to a leather-hard state, the artisan pulls the handle separately from a single clay lug, using wet hands to stretch the material into a perfectly weighted, organic curve before luting it securely to the body. Following a 900°C bisque firing, the mug is carefully dipped into an iron-rich dark glaze before receiving a secondary coating of a reactive titanium-cobalt slip across the base. The piece is then subjected to a rigorous 20-hour reduction firing at 1300°C inside a wood kiln, where the extreme heat forces the two mineral zones to fuse and bleed into a deeply layered finish unique to every single mug.
Sustainability Practices
Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
