The architecture of the bowl showcases a deep, rounded basin that rests securely on a defined foot ring, curving upward into a pronounced, rolled rim gallery. Sitting snugly inside this protective rim is a matching domed lid, uniquely engineered with a tall, hollow circular crown handle that offers an exceptionally steady, ergonomic grip while doubling as an elegant structural statement.
The exterior is finished in a smooth, semi-matte sand-beige glaze that displays a beautiful, organic complexity. A natural dusting of fine iron speckles pepper the cream-colored surface, rising straight from the rich clay body during the firing process. Breaking up the neutral tone is a striking, hand-applied ribbon of unglazed terracotta slip that winds across the bowl's face like a natural geological vein, exposing the raw, tactile texture of the fired stoneware. The lid mimics this design, blending refined glaze work with earthy, unglazed borders. Process & Craft
Throwing a nested lidded soup bowl requires incredible precision on the potter's wheel, as the inner rim gallery of the basin must be measured down to the millimeter to ensure the high-domed lid sits flush without slipping. The artisan throws the deep, rounded base from raw local stoneware clay before shaping the specialized lid with its characteristic wide crown handle. Once leather-hard, the distinctive abstract motif is hand-brushed using an iron-rich unglazed slip, leaving a highly textured, matte trail against the smooth body. The piece then undergoes a grueling 20-hour reduction cycle at 1300°C inside a wood kiln, allowing the fire to toast the raw clay details into a rich terracotta hue while permanently fusing the speckled beige glaze.
