Carrying the quiet drama of fire and chance, this ceramic Yam cup reveals the raw beauty of wood-fired stoneware through its surface and form. The gently rounded silhouette feels steady and reassuring in the hand, shaped slowly to preserve the subtle irregularities that give each piece its own character. Deep charcoal tones mingle with warm clay and soft ash hues, forming a surface that feels like a shifting landscape shaped by heat and time. Crafted in stoneware and wood-fired, the cup is marked by wandering flames, settling ash, and changing kiln atmospheres, creating natural flashing, layered textures, and unrepeatable patterns. Ideal for tea, sake, espresso, or slow moments of pause, the cup invites touch, warmth, and a deeper connection to everyday rituals.

Process & Craft

Each yam cup is handmade by master craftspeople using traditional studio pottery methods, beginning with wheel-thrown forms shaped from unique clay mixes prepared in-house. Natural, mineral-rich glazes are applied by hand, drawing from Japanese Mingei and Korean Buncheong influences that guide the studio’s design sensibility. Fired at nearly 1300°C, the stoneware develops remarkable strength and a glaze surface shaped by the dynamic play of fire, ash, and high-temperature reactions inside the kiln. Every piece is quietly distinct — a reflection of the kiln’s temperament, the hands that shaped it, and the experienced designers who curate its final aesthetic.

Sustainability Practices

Made in serene, low-waste pottery studios that prioritize mindful production. All materials used — clays, glazes, oxides — are natural and non-toxic. High-temperature firing ensures long product life, reducing breakage and replacement cycles. Crafted in small batches to support ethical production and minimize overconsumption. Each mug embodies a slow craft philosophy, valuing longevity over mass production.
